      LACROSSE 10 INTERSESSION

      Coach Clancy

Strength and conditioning is the name of the game, and Jon Clancy at Marist has been producing extraordinary results ever since his arrival in 2009. A 1994 graduate of West Point and New Hyde Park native, Clancy was on Army's triathlon team throughout for all four years. A true student-athlete, Coach Clancy graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Systems Engineering.

After serving for five years, Coach retired with the rank of Captain before embarking on his career as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Prior to Marist he worked in the private sector in Syracuse and served as a strength and conditioning coach at SUNY Cortland.

Being a former high school lacrosse player at New Hyde Park Memorial on Long Island,

the men's lacrosse team took an immediate shine to Coach Clancy. However, 'The Cicruit' quickly proved to be a sort of crucible that dropped his approval rating. Marist returned to the MAAC Tournament last year in part to Coach Clancy's effort, and everyone there is grateful for the long hours and patience he has shown to all the programs. Marist Athletics will continue to be bigger, stronger and faster with Coach Clancy at the leading the way.

The moral of the story here is get in the gym because it pays dividends. You can sit at home all winter, and work on your KDR (Kill to Death Ratio) in Black Ops or Halo, or you can get in the gym. I guarantee the kids playing on Memorial Day Weekend log the hours. Will you?

    • Thursday Throwdown

This kid got freaking tossed. It looks like the hit LT expelled on Theismann without the protruding bone from his leg. What really did it for me in this video was that his gear goes flying as well as his body. I think his helmet hit the boards. Gotta strap that on tighter.

Do you think Roger Goodell fined Jeff Zywicki for annihilating Colin Achenbach? Like if this were the NFL I'm fairly positive that this would be at least a $25k fine. Minimum. What are the odds Achenbach was seeing stars after this? 200%?

    • Meet Brent Herbst

      NCAA Tournament Appearance

      Bro'ing out with those sweats

Hailing from Plainview, NY, Brent Herbst made quite the name for himself at mid-major, Siena College. He was named to the All-MAAC team four times and was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American. This past summer was Brent's rookie season in the MLL where he served as a back-up for the Long Island Lizards.

Q: What are you doing to stay on top of your game in the off-season?

A: At the moment I have been working out several times a week to stay in shape, and recently I started training for a half marathon. However, nothing can really get you in game shape the same as actually playing.

Q: Do you have a favorite story from your rookie season in the MLL?

A: I really actually enjoyed the actual draft day from my first year in the MLL. A group of MLL incoming rookies were asked to play Team USA during the day and the actual draft took place later that evening. That experience was definitely very cool.

Q: Are you a sweatpants goalie?

A: Yeah. I have always been a big sweatpants guy. I wear baggy XXL sweatpants because they're always good for a few saves a season, and I've always felt more comfortable in sweatpants versus shorts.

Q: What type of stick are you using these days?

A: I still use the same stick I used throughout college. A Nemesis head with 12-diamond mesh and a Gait 803 Shaft.

Q: What's it like playing in the MLL, and how do you like it compared to college?

A: The MLL is definitely a much different game than the college level.  Each league has its’ positive and negatives. The MLL is a lot of fun because it gives you the opportunity to play against the best players in the world. All of the shooters in the MLL are extremely talented and can snipe from anywhere on the field, so there are really no soft shots or good matchups for the defense. That being said, the MLL is also geared towards offensive players while the college game is much more even.  As a goalie, the college game is clearly more favorable.

Q: Do you have any advice for the younger crowd?

A: Goalie is a unique position because there is no prototypical body type needed to be successful. For younger goalies, I would say the key is to see as many shots as possible. That’s really the only way to get better and improve on their weaknesses.
